Travel to America

So this is short but I referenced this in another blog so I'll post it here.

Basically we were emailed an itinerary for our flights back to America.

Well, when we checked in at the airport and were given our boarding passes, our first flight was the only flight that was correct. Of course now I know to check the passes as soon as you get them, but of course we didn't because we had written down our itinerary that was emailed to us.

So, our first flight to Frankfurt was fine. Then we take our time to find our next flight because we have 2 hours (maybe more, can't remember). We play cards as we wait for them to start boarding.

Well, as we are boarding at 13:05 like our email said...we look at our boarding passes that say "board time: 11:35". So I ask Shelly why it says that and she goes "did we miss our flight?" To which I think, um no...because this is the flight on our itinerary. Well, whatever...because we did miss the flight we had a boarding pass for. So we go up to the counter and the guy is so nice and tells the other lady to do something in German and we show her our email we received but that our boarding passes were clearly different. We figured we were going to be stuck in Frankfurt.

But, it was a complete miracle. There was space on the plane...that is crazy...summer is peak travel time...and they even had seats together!! Shelly sat behind me. The lady said "I'm sorry we don't have seats next to each other" HA! We totally didn't care if we were on opposite sides of the plane we were just so happy to be on the plane! She also said that normally they make you pay a re-boarding fee (or something like that) and they send you back to the check in counter but that her boss said to just wave it (that was the guy Shelly originally went up to). That was another miracle because while this nice lady was helping us another lady was speaking with Mr. Boss and he was being really mean to her and not helping her at all. Then the lady told us this flight arrives in America later than the other flight we were supposed to be on so she couldn't make any reservations for the next flight. We told her that was ok, we knew that wasn't her problem.

So honestly at this point, I am just so happy we are going to make it to America and if we have to stay in Virginia..fine...whatever...we made it to America. Neither of us had phones so we didn't really know how to contact our family...but we would figure that out later.

Well Shelly did the math and it turned out we would have half an hour to make it to our next flight. But keep in mind we had to go through customs.

Anyways...long story short...we barely made our next flight. However, it's the other flight, not the one we had on our email itinerary so we had no idea how to tell our parents we were going to be on a totally different flight and actually half an hour earlier. But whatever...we would just go find them...it was still the same airline.

Well, we arrive and my grandpa had just returned from Cleveland so he was waiting in the waiting area at our gate. I was so shocked I completely kept walking. But our first question was how did he know we were on that plane because that was the wrong plane.

Turns out the other flight didn't even exist. So, I am glad we made this flight on time because our back up was the original flight that apparently didn't exist.

In the end our families were there...our luggage wasn't but we didn't care, we made it home :)
